I'm 18. Asian-American. First watched anime back when I was a kid, when
my parents would go to the Chinese video store and get tapes of Doraemon
and DBZ. Saw some more anime when we moved from the US all the way to
Italy. On the local channels, there would be shows like Sailor Moon,
Marmalade Boy, Hime-Chan's Ribbon, Saint Tail, and Slayers. In Italian,
of course, so I had no clue as to what they were saying. It was only in
8th grade, when I moved back to the US, that I learned about what anime
really was (as well as the names of the shows I saw!). From my early beginnings with Ah! My Goddess, Love Hina, and
Saber Marionette J, I've become a collector. I'll play anime songs on the
piano or violin. Heck, I don't even watch TV anymore (which isn't the
same as not watching TV shows - I wouldn't miss watching an episode of
Family Guy or Invader Zim).
To be honest, I probably haven't seen 3/4 of the stuff I have, since I
don't always have the free time. Furthermore, after a tearful experience
watching the Ah! My Goddess OAVs, I don't start on a series until I have
all of it, when I can finish it without interruptions. As you might have
noticed from the last sentence, I'm a sap for romance and drama. Action
isn't high up on my list. Case in point: with the exception of one or two
episodes, I haven't seen anything from the Gundam series. But if there's
anything out there that's good, I'll make an effort to watch it and share
my experience with others.
