My love for anime started a long
time ago when VCRs were hip and browsing the local video rental store was a trendy
family activity. Fortunately I then stumbled across a few of the first anime titles
hidden among the usual European kid's animation series. Unfortunately only a very
few titles were available here at Europe and only very few made it onto TV (like
Heidi/Captain Future). Therefore I strayed far from my beloved anime/manga
food due to lack of releases. Since finally anime made its breakthrough on the
US market with the upcoming DVD! After a decade of not having been able watch
many anime, my thirst for this great genre now resurfaced.
Generally
I like watching all forms of anime unless they target the very young kid's segment.
So Pokemon etc. just is no joy for me. On the other hand I really like
watching the tons of whacky TV series mainly targeting a teenage audience, since
that may have been the time I had longed to watch anime more than ever before
without being able to get my hands on any releases.
Just
like most of the other reviewers I rate whether an anime is good or bad rather
subjectively. Even though Characters, Plot, Design, Music are important things
to look at, I don't require all these aspects to be outstanding to find a show
entertaining. Besides all technical/formal prerequisites, the question whether
you can enjoy it or not is what counts. Individual aspects of craftsmanship only
reflect pieces that may or may not help to make it fun.
Currently
I am only able to mainly review US DVD releases or titles that are available with
some sort of non-Japanese subtitles, for I still don't understand more Japanese
than I can talk Klingon :( Even though importing those releases is a bit inconvenient,
I have no other option since local releases are still quite rare and of bad quality.
Over the next period I will be working on adding reviews about all titles in my
current DVD collection.
When I'm not watching anime,
I play at the UKTFCL(link->uktfcl.far2cool.com) (a 3D-gaming league) or try
add some progress to my studies in the field of IT. Currently my focus is back
on software development after having turned my back on the consulting industry.
And
I still try to figure out who that anime-cutey "anox-girl" in the Anachronox
game data files is.. ;)
