Olmanek

About Olmanek

I started gaining an interest in anime after watching Evangelion and being awestruck by it, plus as I was interested in metaphysics and psychology at the time I actually enjoyed the ending, so that helped a great deal, then I joined an anime club run at a local university who did fortnightly screenings and so my interest increased and I became quite a fan of the stuff. I quite like a well crafted series, but admittedly I also like some of the more mindless series and one's which I can't really hope to explain why I enjoy them as I do, Ghibli films being some of my favourites but ones which I'm very reluctant to review because I'm never sure just what it is about each individual one that I find so brilliant, this also applies for a number of series, To Heart, Yokohama Shopping Log, Fruits Basket, Angel's Egg and various others.

The thing which I think sets anime apart from a lot of others mediums of entertainment is that it isn't as restricted as others, you can have a plausible and good looking series set 150 years ago with fantastic fight scenes and characters as well as intricate and complex storylines and create a world bustling with people and it's own environment and mood, to do as much in a movie with human actors would require ungodly sums of money, hundreds of additional background actors who serve no purpose other than to fill the background and very talented main actors, an extremely talented director to capture the right atmosphere, brilliant sets and clothing designs, all of these things can be created by a single person in anime, which I think is something amazing, also as anime has become so well refined, characters; their personalities and their designs, as well as voice actors are increasingly getting better and better, the storyline idea's are also showing signs of great diversity and improving rapidly, though there is of course the occasional horrific abomination but compared to all the good it's not a worry, in addition the animation is becoming more and more fluid each year, and the music that accompanies series and movies is often already brilliant but put into context it can become heart wrenchingly painful, uplifting, relaxing or just fun, if you've ever read any of the old Japanese texts, often their poetry and a lot of their mythology and stories, you'll see they have an appreciation of nature and simple beauty, even the interest in Sakura blossoms shows this much which is still common today, they naturally have a very humble and philosophical understanding of things which I think allows for great creations. Anime is a highly refined art form which has the diversity flexibility and capability and of no other medium, and that's why I'm such an avid fan of it.

About Olmanek

I'm 16 and in my second last year of High School and I spend most of my time either at school or just whittling away my time with friends, the typical mindless teenager stuff. For interesting events, I have jumped out of a moving train, and shattered the bones in my arm while I was at it, I don't think people appreciate how much it hurts to jump off of stuff. With my friends I've taken over large Janitorial rooms in my school, brought in carpet, painted the walls and drilled in locks during out of school hours, and also run A computer, TV and VCR through light bulb outlets (Not sure of the exact way in which it was done, my friends are the one's with electrical knowledge) and turned the place into a miniature base, converted abandoned signal boxes into bases, converted underground world war 2 tunnels into bases, set up a pirate radio station, and a small BBS, I also write columns for a counter-culture newsletter/magazine which is distributed out at a local university that also has a very cool Anime club which screens anime every fortnight, which helped me greatly in getting so interested in anime. I suffer from light insomnia and so I've a lot of spare time during the nights, during which time I like to mainly write whilst listening to music and watch anime, I don't have any favoured genre, but mainly I look for good storyline, good music and a bit of style, I also enjoy some of the more mindless series which are just fun to watch, I guess I like a bit of everything.
