Takuya Isurugi is a plane otaku who joins the 801st TTS Airbats
division as a maintenance personnel. The Airbats are an all-female aerial acrobatic
squadron, and a dumping place for troublesome individuals. The two main pilots
Miyuki Haneda (voiced by Aya Hisakawa) and Arisa Mitaka (Ai Orikasa)
are bitter rivals, even more so after they fall for Takuya. The majority of the
show involves Miyuki and Arisa bickering endlessly over Takuya, who just can't
decide which girl to go for. This is Tenchi Muyo all over again, except
not as funny. There's also the Airbats' struggle to prove themselves, which requires
them to pass various tests, and leads them to a confrontation with an American
squadron, but that episode was highly annoying as the bickering consists mostly
out of Japanese-American insults. The ramen-eating contest episode is amusing
though, and the show ends on a high note when we get an episode solely dedicated
to a different romantic relationship between two of the secondary characters -
it's a bittersweet tale and it works fantastically.
