Joe Yabuki, a lonely orphan who is lost it and went astray
in street fights until he was found by ex-boxer Danbie. Based on the manga of
Tetsuya Chiba, Ashita no Joe has managed to gain a cult following after
it. It has succeeded in capturing people's hearts around Japan with its quality
storyline and excellent boxing matches. Since this one is rather old, the art
style is dated and somehow laughable especially when compared to the 2nd series,
which I've watched first. So if you fancy seeing a really good boxing anime (there
aren't much of those) and you don't mind the harsh graphics, you will surely like
this. And even if the dated animation disturbs you, try checking this out because
the beauty of AnJ lies far beneath a mere skin.
