Betterman is hard to get into at first I admit...but it was
very good even though, in my opinion, had some flaws. The story is a general save
the world but don't die scenario and the characters seemed left out and a little
dry. The characters also had plenty of time to develop but all the time for that
chance was blocked out by so much confusion and questions that it was overlooked.
Some characters had absolutely no background and no reason as to why something
they were going through had caused them to act in a particular way. This affected
the series also...
The uniqueness of the series was
all too alluring...because of its strategically placed plot holes and the mystery
of some characters and questions created an ambiance of being able to enjoy something
you didn't understand. Its easy to catch on if you are used to confusing anime
and manga like End of Evangelion and .hack//SIGN.... and if you
popped in during the middle of the series (as odd as this may sound) ...it actually
was a good excuse for the confusion going on i.e. missed episodes, or not able
to stay up late enough. If u saw it from the beginning I can assure you that you
were either extremely confused, extremely disturbed, or fully understanding of
what was going on.
The complete mystery of the series
was another thing to point out by means of this: Its as if you were in the show,
just as confused as everyone else...as if it was designed to leave out major areas
of the storyline and plot just to be as confusing as possible...but extremely
understandable and queerly enjoyable as well. Its as if you had really no clear
idea of what some characters were trying to accomplish and were following them
around, tracking them down, and taking notes on them... as if it was a detective
story. But since it was not a detective story, you would think you were going
out of your way to understand everything...and could have abandoned the series
right there. Patience is a virtue, and if you stuck around, you would have been
rewarded.
If you enjoyed the series it is just as
easy to say it was bad as it is to say it was good...To me it had no absolute
flaws that made any substantial difference to the show, but was actually just
designed for the viewer to opinionate their own flaws...In other words its all
at how you looked at it by means of characters, settings, any episode, you name
it. For example: In the caves you could judge if it was scary or not or even dark...the
creators left no opinion as to how they wanted it to be. Leaving the accusations
and decisions to the viewer.... If you thought well then seemingly the characters
would think so too, without any influence the people in the story were made to
react to ay situation at any time. This means Hinoki (one of the lead characters)
could have been crying at one point. You could determine if she was crying tears
of joy or if she was hysterical, again there was no trace of evidence left by
the creators. Even though the plot was obscure there was the ending that to what
I will say was a dramatic twist...The fact that there was so many questions leading
to no answers made it a considerable topic. What was decided fit well in with
the series but was to stand out from the viewers' interpretation and predictions...
I was reluctant though to see as to how the series was played out by means of
endings and the whole purpose of it. I wanted to pretend the ending that was given
never existed and that it was never like that, but because it was beyond my comprehension
at some points, I soon realized that the creators knew what they were doing and
gave in leaving it at that. But this series is defiantly worth seeing again, so
you could decide, that for the second time if it was better.
