All right, the animation and atmosphere looks straight out of Batman the Animated Series. The show, unfortunately, is not as good. While there is a general plot to the story, it appears only briefly, and remains unfinished. That is really too bad, since the premise and the setup create the potential for a very intriguing story. The character interactions are also fairly good, though the "mecha of the week" influence is also very visible.

The Big-O is an interesting hybrid taking a typical western super hero, and meshing him into the giant robot anime genre. Our story follows Roger Smith, the negotiator, a Bruce Wayne (Batman) clone who pilots a giant robot within a city of people that have forgotten the past and where memories of the past are valuable. For the most part the show follows a fairly simple and episodic formula, with the bad guys appearing followed by a giant robot battle destroying a chunk of city. The real let down for me was the story which for the most part doesn't develop at all and has no clear goal, or finale. I did however get a kick out of Dorothy the android that lives with Roger and begins to become attached to him as well as the utter destruction that the "hero" manages to unleash on the city will defending it, much to the dismay of the police. Big-O is a fun series, but beyond it's initial unique appeal I found it lacking. Hopefully the recently announced second season of Big-O will manage to capitalize on it's strong start and bring it to satisfying conclusion story wise.
