DiGi Charat Summer Special

3. Cross Scars

The first special series to follow on from the TV series the Summer Special unfortunately fails to be quite as good as the original. The same characters and style of humour has been carried over but it's not as satisfying. The one reason for this is the slug character who constantly pops up through out and spoils things with his generally annoying behaviour. The introduction of Pyoko slightly offsets this but the slug man still drags the series down. Undoubtedly without him this would be a lot better. The other slight problem with this Special is the fact that during the last episode the series really feels more like an advert for the Gamers stores which Broccoli, the creators of DiGi Charat, run rather than being an amusing series about Deijiko. Still fun to watch but slightly spoilt from being as good as was the original series.

2. Tempy

The DiGi Charat Summer Special consists of 4 episodes, each 11 minutes long. There's a plot this time, albeit a very fragile one. A new character is introduced: Pyoko from the Black Gema Gema clan (voiced by Megumi Hayashibara of Lina Inverse fame). The bits with her in it are quite enjoyable and funny. Unfortunately there are also bits featuring a large bug which just doesn't have the same impact. Still, DiGi Charat and the gang continue to do their usual hyperactive and crazy thing and if you liked the TV series, you'll like the summer specials as well.

1. Jeneki

AKA DiGi Charat "Property Damage Edition". This four episode series, taking place after the original series, takes the insanity level of the first series and cranks it up a notch. Nothing stays normal for long, heck even plain brick walls go SD-mode at times. The episodes here are a bit longer at around 10 minutes, so I'm sorry to say there is a bit of actual plot this time around. Can Akihabara withstand more punishment from Dejiko and her friends? How do they rebuild that place so fast? Needless to say, fans of the original will love the unstructured madness that is contained within. If, however, you loathed first season, I guarantee you're not going to make it through the first 30 seconds of this one. ^_^
