Kei and Yuri are a pair of troubleshooters who call themselves
the Lovely Angels but are better known as the Dirty Pair because of the disaster
and mayhem they generally leave in their wake. This is an 80s sci-fi classic and
an influential member of the 'girls-with-guns' genre. It's very episodic, formulaic
even, with no character development to speak of, but within this limited framework
there's some entertaining stuff to be found. At its best the writing is clever
and amusing, with specific scenes a delight to watch. Failing that there's a certain
charm to the Dirty Pair's antics that'll be familiar to any fan of Lina Inverse,
and failing THAT there's always the skimpy outfits. For more highbrow viewers
there's also references to classic sci-fi books to spot. The visuals and sounds
are typical of a well designed mid-80s show and bear little resemblance to the
later Dirty Pair Flash remake.
