Don't let the title confuse you. This series takes place in
the OAV timeline. The reason for the name switch was that this is a TV series.
Another El-Hazard TV series was broadcast before this using the same name
as the OAVs, although it was definitely a different take on the story, and is
called Wanderers in the US. Again, many people do not like this series
as much, although it is generally said to be better than OAV 2. At the start of
this new series, one of the priestesses is getting married - so a new one is needed.
Of course, she is another cute AIC girl. Her assistant is not to be missed. Another
dimensional-slip occurs, only this time, the people of Roshtaria are along for
the fun! The place they land bears an eerie resemblance to old El-Hazard,
and the new priestess seems to possibly have some sort of connection with Ifurita.
And the plot builds... and then it falls into the late-night TV budget trap. It
ends, but without addressing any of these connections! It was on its way to being
as cool as OAV 1, but sadly, nose-dived mid-series. The back half is very disappointing
after this. There is an ending, but it feels like a real cop-out. The 13th episode
of nothing but fanservice is fun, but can't make up for the end. Perhaps if AIC
made something that takes place after this and addresses Kauru and her Ifurita
connection, and ends at OAV 1's ending, it could be viewed in a better light.
