A few good scenes, but that's about the best that can be said about this tangled mess of an OVA. Add on to that the fact that I really didn't think that this needed to be made at all, and the first Fushigi Yuugi OVAs really don't start to look too good. Nevertheless, it was made, and paved the way for the infinately better Eikoden, so it's not all bad. I did like that they attempted to tell backstories for some of the main characters and there were some genuinely moving moments within. But overal, this was a mildly above average tack-on to the series. The omake are the best part, and hilarious.

The Fushigi Yuugi OVA series takes place a short while after the events of the TV series. This time it's still more of the same. Which is a good thing... sorta. Characters are less annoying, but everything seems a bit farfetched (well, more farfetched than the TV series). Somehow people can't seem to STAY dead :) There are quite a few good scenes, though as a whole the OVA does seem a bit tacked on, especially the latter 6 episodes. Seems like they tried to cram enough material for 26 episodes into just 9 episodes, especially episode 3 where they don't even bother showing important stuff. What's cool though are the silly omake where the characters make fun of the show itself. While funny (especially the trip to the women's-only hot springs), the sketches kinda make it painfully obvious how cheesy Fushigi Yuugi sometimes is :)
