This 12-minute per episode series is one of the funniest anime
I've ever watched. With a very cute OP song and a very daring plot (which is none),
this series has somehow kept fans happy for it to come up with a succeeding season
2 and 3. A series completely focused on comedy, and an anime with no big-shot
voice actors, no romance (except a rag doll liking his master) whatsoever, how
does this series become such a popular must-have and made me offer my cold cash
on my knees?
It is about a group of young women
in the Angel division, a supposedly elite core of the military who offers their
special abilities to help make the world a better place. And in order to do that,
they are put up against impossible obstacles James Bond style such as delivering
an unreturned school ID card, retrieving a lost kitty, winning baseball games.
Each character of the team has her own distinct character, which is what I think
that made this series a winner. You have Ranpha, the lovely blonde who works out
to maintain her slim physique. Forte, who owns an entire armory of weapons and
will happily find an excuse to use them. Vanilla, a dull and innocent girl with
a doll that used to be a missile, and lastly Galaxy Angel's icon, Millefeuille
(pronounced Me-ru-feu-ru), a girl who possess luck and loves to cook and will
pick up millions of dollars by luck all throughout the picture. None of the episodes
are actually serious, as they will all turn out to be a laugh, which is good for
anyone who enjoys a break from more serious titles such as Evangelion or
Saikano. After familiarizing yourself with the GA formula, every
episode you sit with a smile just waiting for something funny and stupid to happen.
Some episodes do the trick on you, and some will not. But either way in the end
you will be glad you watched them all. Like mini m&ms, each episode is short
so I excuse myself to watch more and more until I pass out of joy.
The
one focused plot of this series is the retrieval of the "lost technology."
Most of the episodes never adhere to this main plot however, and for fans like
me, can't care less because most of the time were spent laughing and... mostly
laughing. This is an anime series recommended to everyone who likes to see pictures
move on screen. I guess the only thing bad (but not bad enough for me to complain
and fuss about) is that there is neither character development nor a focused plot.
So one might likely to sit through the entire series and left with no big impressions
except that somehow you forgot to eat lunch and dinner.
Why
I have it: Because I downloaded the OP song.
High: Funny on every
scale, short episodes make it anime cocaine.
Low: Art outdated. No plot
nor character development. Not as funny as season 3.
Final: C'mon you
can't watch lovey lovey anime all day, enjoy GA (rhyme intended)
