8. Avenant

Golden Boy follows the travels of 25-year-old Kintaro Oe, traveling all over Japan on his trusty bicycle, getting work wherever he can. He isn't always what he seems, and manages to charm women everywhere he goes, in different ways - despite the fact that he's caught perving over a toilet in every episode!

Unfortunately, the series is very episodic and as such has lack of any solid storyline. I also thought it was too short, 6 episodes were just too little. But Golden Boy is full of laughs, and I really enjoyed the (often perverted) humour...If it's comedy you're after, then Golden Boy delivers.

7. Q

Golden Boy has no plot, or story to speak of. The animation isn't anything special. And yet...I couldn't stop laughing.

This is one of the oddest titles I've ever come across, and if someone described it to you...you'd never watch it. No storyline, no plot development. Voice acting that is deliberately way over the top. A main character with a toilet fetish...etc.

And yet again...I couldn't stop laughing. A toilet fetish...how could you not laugh? This short series just kept me in stitches throughout. It really is shifted towards my sense of humor.

I like Golden Boy...and any other anime that keeps me laughing.

Animation - 3 1/2 stars
Storyline - No stars
Overall - 4 stars...even though it contains absolutely nothing more than laughs.

6. Iodine

A short OAV with great style and zest, that is so preoccupied with sex, it can probably only be truly enjoyed by the young and male. The setup is simple. In every episode, the brilliant and perverted Kintaro gets a new part-time job and then gradually seduces the sexy woman of the week by defeating the haughty ones at their own game, and giving the shy ones a new outlook on life. So many adult situations and themes manage to incorporate themselves into the plots, not to mention the main character's behavior, the anime is really only a few degrees shy of being X-rated. There's no real progression in Kintaro's story through his encounters, so the OAV can be considered an anthology of sorts. Six episodes is quite enough for a premise with no real direction. Though the various characters our hero meets are all well conceived and interesting, the story is essentially the same every time, and seems to advocate some troubling ideas about male/female relationships, despite the comedic front. Kintaro himself is likeable enough in animated form, but one suspects that our impressions would be quite different in the real world.

The quality of the production is very high, and the animation spares no expense. The dialogue is fun and the writing is passably entertaining outside of Kintaro's more hormonally-influenced observances. But though the wrappings may be pretty, the OAV is still a hentai at heart, and should be regarded as such.

5. Fencer Hayato

Golden Boy is a story about Kintaro Oe, a good, kind hearted boy (also a pervert and has a weird fetish with toilets), who quit college and starts an adventure and helps people he meets along the way. He takes random jobs on his journeys and even though he knows nothing about what he's doing, he learns very fast and eventually masters his job. This anime has loads of fan service in practically every episode, and the animation is fairly good.

4. Tempy

Kintaro Oe is a wanderer, taking on various part-time jobs while learning about life as much as he can. To many he might seem like a clumsy oaf at first. But it's quickly apparent that his main skill is his ability to quickly learn *anything*, leaving the people he meet staggered and in awe. Kintaro is a kind and helpful man, but also quite the pervert which often leads to hilarious situations. Golden Boy is rather episodic but filled with outrageously funny ecchi moments. The art is detailed, the women are gorgeous, and Mitsuo Iwata (Pyoro in Vandread, Kaneda in Akira, Gan-Chan in Adventures of the Mini-Goddesses) provides an excellent vocal performance to Kintaro.

3. Jin

Golden Boy revolves around the adventures of a 25-year old Kintaro Oe. He travels across Japan taking odd jobs in an attempt to learn as much about life as he can. In his adventures you meet the people he works with and how he affects their lives. Of course you see plenty of girls and fan service all over the place. ^_^ The plot is all about Kintaro's adventures as he travels across Japan. Each episode doesn't really follow the next, as this is an episodic OVA. However, it all comes together at the end of the series. Well, the plot stories for each episode is VERY humorous. No matter how hard you try not to laugh you WILL laugh. However, the plot may not appeal to everyone, as this is a very sexual oriented plot humor. Now character development isn't exactly expanded like most anime. But Golden Boy does capture the necessary background information to create a story. Also you could feel sorry for Kintaro at times as he is just a "student" trying to learn. It's probably best that there was no extreme character building up. This might detract from the overall humor of things. The humor does slow down in the middle but quickly picks speed up. It sort of slows down in the final episode but it is still extremely humorous.

The animation is pretty good. The main characters of each episode are detailed well. However, the secondary characters aren't overly animated. Also the character designs for the secondary characters aren't too good. But then again they ARE secondary characters so it works just fine either way. The animation also flows smoothly and of course the animators make use of the girls by providing tons of fan service. Also the numerous amounts of faces Kintaro is able to show make the show all the more humorous. The music is almost nonexistent. The music that is there is a somewhat lighthearted and sometimes gives a goofy type of tone. It suits the anime well in creating a humorous atmosphere. Also the less music during certain scenes will allow you to get better focus on Kintaro and his crazy antics.

A high quality comedy anime is what Golden Boy is. Anyone who has a taste for sexual jokes or sexual oriented humor should watch this without hesitation. As a side note the thing you should probably do is watch the English dub. The English voice of Kintaro is just too funny. The Japanese voice doesn't capture it as well since we are reading subs.

2. Dreamer

Kintaro Oe, 25, a 'stupid' boy who has abandoned university for the better 'life-exploring' journey. Each episode stars a specific star girl. While I am not a fan for these kind of shows, this one is so damn funny that I cannot resist watching it at least once. The art style is nice and the girls' design fits their personalities well. To me, the most funny thing in the show, besides the comedy, is the million faces Kintaro makes through out the show. They are so damn funny, nearly every one of them form the old man to the helpless. Some are just funny in their disgusting form. And if you wonder, yes, this one has got a year load of fanservice for you to enjoy... oh well (sigh). Anyway, to me the episodes I really like are episode 3 (in which Kintaro is not perverted at all) and episodes 6 (in the anime studio ^^).

Goldenboy is simply my favorite adult comedy anime of all time. The title isn't hentai, but the show's jokes get awfully close. The story follows Kintaro a wandering student who takes odd jobs, the women he meets, and how he changes their lives. The stories are outrageously funny, but also contain a human element as Kintaro helps the people he meets deal with a problem they have in their life. Considering the subject matter, the fanservice is fairly light at times, although it does have it's moments that it uses them to good effect. The red dress scene in the first episode comes to mind, a classic scene that had my cracking up. A great title for people that enjoy sex related humor.
