I don't believe that just being based off a game is a good enough reason for something to be bloody horrid anymore. This, to give it more credit than it deserves, is I assume something of an introduction to the series, which is currently in production. Hopefully (for those of us who don't yet want to admit that the anime industry is not entirely made up of Miyazaki's, Anno's and other respectable people) this was made in the idea that if it was well received it would then quickly be followed up by a series, amazingly, it must have been well received.

The animation and character design is nothing spectacular, I haven't written it off completely though because I'm not harsh about animation standards in general, if the story makes up for other lacking qualities then it's okay, and in its own peculiar way this series does.

The story in these shows is never anything to make you stop and quietly ponder, it's blatant, moronic, simpleton stuff, which is why I'm giving it two 1/2 stars, because sometimes people do enjoy sitting and zoning out for 20 minutes, after which you can go back to reality happily aware that things can only get better from that moment on.

Green Green is based on a PC bishoujo game (whether it's a hentai game or merely a dating sim I don't really know, the OVA is non-hentai) about an all-girls school taking in boys in preparation of becoming a coed school. Said boys are all a bunch of misfits who go ga-ga at all the girls. The art and animation are very poorly done, and the story is even worse. With no real character introductions or development (this is a short OVA after all), we're left with charicatures. The guys are being perverted much to the chagrin of the girls, and when underwear is missing the girls naturally suspect the boys. But who really stole the underwear? Anyway, there are a few girls and guys who do get along and those relationships seem interesting, but since this is only 1 ep and merely a "gift" to the fans of the game, we don't see those relationships go anywhere. If you aren't familiar with the game, it's telling ya to buy the game - too bad it's not being very convincing.

Sorta reminiscent of Ping Pong Club since they both feature horny male students, but PPC is much funnier because of its absurdness and outrageousness. Plus PPC is actually drawn and animated better :-) Apparently the Green Green game is much better, but that's not too hard to imagine.
