Green Green TV is nothing new. It's a slight reworking of the high school romance/harem formula evident in many other anime, and unfortunately, in this case, it's not done particularly well.
The story revolves around two high school students, straight-man Takazaki and the ditzy but kind-hearted Midori who loves him at first sight. A busload of students from a girls school show up at the all-male Kanenone high school as the first step to merging their schools into one coed establishment. Immediate mayhem ensues. The biggest problem of the anime is evident pretty quickly; not only is the plot not very inventive, the characters are pretty bland. Takazaki is the standard anime nice guy, though with a bit more spine than most. Of course, he comes with three completely insane male friends who do little more than hurt his chances with the girls through some truly creepy and disturbing stunts. Green Green's the only anime where I've seen the words 'nipple print' cross my computer screen. None of the girls are anything new either; sickly Sanae and stern Futaba are the only ones who show up much. Expect plenty of fanservice, though.
The cast engages in many zany stunts, aided by the fact that there are only 2 teachers in the whole school. Realism is hardly the name of the game, especially in the last couple episodes. In these, a fantasy plot is brought out, and the ensuing angst doesn't blend very well with the rest of the series though it does, thankfully, reduce the role of the three idiots attached to Takazaki. The anime is also hurt by generally dull-looking art and sometimes uneven proportioning of the characters and the fact that episode 8 is actually a summary episode (very out of place in so short a series).
All in all, Green Green makes good material to watch once and then put behind you.

If you've seen the Green Green OVA, you probably were not very enthused about watching the TV series. However, the premise in the TV series is a bit different. In the one episode OVA, boys from the school Kanenone are invited to an all-girls school to act as a trial-run to see if implementing a co-ed school would be successful. Judging from the OVA, the show seems to be more of a fan-service-like high school show, focusing primarily on the boys and the stupid things they do to see panty shots. In the TV series, instead of the boys coming to the all-girls school, the girls go to the boys at Kanenone, which is a boarding school, located deep in a forest in some unspecified location. The same characters from the OVA are present, and the same type of event occurs, which is the act of boys being perverted.
This type of anime has been done much too often. There is no solid storyline, boys are always getting into trouble while peeking at girls, and lots of nudity (in fact, there's one whole episode basically dedicated to seeing the girls in the hot springs). Furthermore, the main female protagonist is named Midori, and her voice is one of the most annoyingly squeaky voices I've ever heard in an anime.
Unlike the OVA, the TV series adds a touch of a fantasy aspect, which is not strongly hinted at until near the end of the series, which is also practically the only part of Green Green that is mildly serious and dramatic. The last couple of episodes saved this review from getting one star. Though the ending plot wasn't too original, it was delivered fairly well.
