3. Connor

This anime is a prequel to the excellent program Crest of the Stars and its sequels. It is a single episode and involves Lafielle's (lead space-elf, oops Abh) parents having an adventure exploring a derelict spaceship. The events take place before Lafielle's birth and in fact ends with it (hence the title). As for Crest of the Stars the best part was in the dialogue, the interplay between the characters. The animation was similar to the series (i.e. good) and the voice acting was great. I enjoyed this program and it is a must see for any fan of the Crest of the Stars series.

2. Cross Scars

This one off special episode from the Crest of the Stars universe explores the background to the birth of Lafiel. The episode thus obviously takes place before the original series and focuses on Lafiel's parents exploring a derelict spaceship.

While this might be the plot, as with everything in the Seikai universe, it's the relationships between the characters that are of most importance and the aim of this extra episode is to show the bond between Lafiel's parents and how Lafiel herself came to be. Even if it is only one regular length episode Seikai no Dansho still admirably puts across the feelings between Plakjak and Dubeusec. The dialogue between one another is touching and clearly puts across the kind of affectionate feelings they have for one another. The episode also helps to demonstrate just where Lafiel's own attitudes towards things come from, which leads to a slightly better understanding of her and her relationship with her parents. The animation on this extra episode is also notably above the distinctly average character animation that was evident in Seikai no Senki and that's a welcome change. Although it adds relatively little to the massive Seikai universe this is still none the less a worthwhile addition to this already grand series.

1. Tempy

Birth is an interesting addition in the Crest of the Stars universe, faintly recalling the epic background of the whole, but primarily providing insight to two enjoyable characters. This TV special takes place years before the events in Crest of the Stars (Seikai no Monshou). It chronicles the discovery of an ancient colony ship by Lafiel's parents (before she was born). The show is mostly about Plakjak (Captain Lexshue in CotS) and Dubeusec's relationship with each other. The constant dialogue between them is enjoyable. Like in Cots, dialogue is a major part of Birth, and while the couple clearly like each other, there still is some kind of polite distance in which the Abh seem to behave around each other.
