Macross has much in common with many timeless and dramatic
stories that appear throughout literature, in that its characters are heroic but
their passions and problems are human and universal, and are presented with compassion,
understanding and humour against the hash background of war. Macross
is a war drama; however the character driven relationship elements take precedence
over the war and mecha elements. Simply put this is a very human war drama. The
characters are generally ordinary and believable people facing extraordinary circumstances,
which is the reason why it's so easy to find empathy with theses characters, and
one of the many reasons why this story had endured as long as it has. Now
over twenty years old SDF Macross was before my time, but I have been a
huge fan of several of the latter Macross incarnations for years. I must
say that not only did this meet my expectations but surpass them. I will admit
however that if one can't see passed any qualms regarding anime as old as this;
it may be a difficult title to enjoy. Still I am confidant in recommending this
to anyone who has enjoyed more current Macross productions and to anyone
interested in viewing a monumental series in anime history. |
