Macross has much in common with many timeless and dramatic stories that appear throughout literature, in that its characters are heroic but their passions and problems are human and universal, and are presented with compassion, understanding and humour against the hash background of war.

Macross is a war drama; however the character driven relationship elements take precedence over the war and mecha elements. Simply put this is a very human war drama. The characters are generally ordinary and believable people facing extraordinary circumstances, which is the reason why it's so easy to find empathy with theses characters, and one of the many reasons why this story had endured as long as it has.

Now over twenty years old SDF Macross was before my time, but I have been a huge fan of several of the latter Macross incarnations for years. I must say that not only did this meet my expectations but surpass them. I will admit however that if one can't see passed any qualms regarding anime as old as this; it may be a difficult title to enjoy. Still I am confidant in recommending this to anyone who has enjoyed more current Macross productions and to anyone interested in viewing a monumental series in anime history.

Robotech:The Macross Saga for me was the first tv show that I saw when I was growing up, and turned me into an anime fan. After many years of waiting, I now have the chance to view the original tv series in all its glory. After about 15 years later of my first experience of this show, I am still hooked on the legend that this show has beome. With transforming robots, love triangles, alien invasions, realistic characters and situations, Macross still is the great scifi saga even though it is a fairly old show. Macross comes highly recommended, and deserves to been seen whether you are a new or old fan of anime.

Not much I can say here that has not aleady been said. Greatest anime series ever. I'm big on the classics, I feel that you gotta give props to the stuff that started it all, and this is THE SHOW as far as I'm concerned. It was not the first anime or anything like that, but it was the first ( that I can remember) to lay everythng out on the table and say " here is how you make an epic ". Anime equivalant of Star Wars. Everyone reading this deserves to treat themselves to this series.

1. Konoha

I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I went into this, but it turned out to be great! Macross is a classic, and it's nice to see that the praise doesn't go undeserved. Take transforming robots, alien invasions, a love triangle and idol singers, throw them all together... and it works surprisingly well. The show was made in '82, but please don't let that detract you from watching this wonderful show. Highly, highly recommended.
