Hikaru,
Fuu and Umi return to the world of Cephiro, where the absence of a Pillar has
reduced Cephiro to a rapidly decaying wasteland. The magic knights need to defend
Cephiro from the three invading countries Autozam, Chizeta and Fahren, while trying
to find a new Pillar to rejuvenate Cephiro. But who is the real enemy? Magic
Knight Rayearth 2 is a real improvement over the first season. There actually
is an interesting plot, tons of new and old interesting characters, and none of
the monster-a-week fights which plagued the first season. The designs are wonderful,
although the art and animation does vary a lot from good to pretty cheap. There
still are the unexciting fights and annoying bits to go through though. Because
Cephiro is a land of willpower and MKR is based on a shoujo manga, as long
as your heart is strong and you believe in yourself, anything can happen. Forget
combat skills, strategic superiority or common sense. Nothing beats the power
of love, friendship and the will, especially if you're slapped silly by it one
hundred times per episode. Good thing Mokona is still around.
