I'm not really sure what to say about this one. It is obviously a continuation of the first season. However, unlike its previous season, Mahoromatic 2 has little to no plot and much more perverted scenes (nothing particularly wrong with this though). There is also little to no hint of solemnity throughout the whole series until the last two episodes, which I actually enjoyed as compared to the first twelve episodes. From complete silliness, this anime turns 180 and attempts to present itself in a serious aspect. The transition was much too quick and much too undeveloped.

It took me quite a while to finish this series.two months, to be exact. Nothing pushed me to watch the next episode, except for the fact that I hate leaving matters unfinished. The most disappointing aspect of this series was that it had potential. I could envision this being a dramatic series, abundant with scenes tugging on emotions. It could have also been a series totally catering to fanservice and comedy, as I stated in my review of season 1, and which was also indicative of the Mahoromatic Summer Special.

After the last episode, I didn't know whether to feel satisfied or unfulfilled. The last episode was such a contrast from the whole series. Oh well.

2. Cross Scars

My review of the original series still states that Mahoromatic could have done with more episodes to expand various elements within the anime. Having now finished season 2 I have to say I’m extremely disappointed with what Gainax have done with these new episodes.

For the first half, or even three quarters of the series, everything is fine. The nature of the series is exactly like the first, and while surprisingly little is done to develop the existing characters it’s still as fun to watch as the first season. However; the series goes quite off the rails as it reaches its conclusion. Certain important events suddenly take place, with very little explanation as to why and the series starts to disintegrate and lose its coherency because of it. Come the end credits I was left feeling slightly clueless as to what just happened. The series also woefully neglects some moments which could have particularly emotional and the pull no punches kind of conclusion I was hoping Gainax would produce didn’t exactly materialize either. The second season of Mahoromatic seems to me like a wasted opportunity after the promise of the first and at it the conclusion I’m almost wondering whether the series would have better off without a second season.

1. Tempy

The 2nd Mahoromatic season continues on in the same spirit as the first season - lots of fanservicy silliness with Suguru, Mahoro, and friends. This time around we're introduced to a new character - Minawa is an combat android just like Mahoro except she's from the enemy. Mahoro takes her into the Misato household anyway and treats her like a younger sister. Minawa is a very quiet girl and a little bit clumsy, but she seems content to be with Mahoro and learns more about human emotions along the way.

Most of the episodes are exceedingly cute and quite humorous, though most of the humour is rooted in naughtiness, just like the first season. The breast-enlargement episode is an eye-boggling example. Mahoro's kindness towards Suguru and Minawa is very sweet, and the bright art and nice music all contribute to make watching this show a very enjoyable experience.

But not all is nice and cheerful. There's also the conflict between the Caretakers, Vespers and Saints to consider, and although this struggle has always been under-utilised, unfocused and downright vague throughout the two series, it eventually leads to a depressing and bittersweet conclusion. I can't help to feel that the ending raced by and should have required a few more episodes, but it was nonetheless well executed while leaving me emotionally drained and confused. And now for the manga.
