The sequel to Mermaid Forest, this similarly short movie
continues to follow Yuta and Mana as they continue to live on forever. Unfortunately
Mermaid Scar does not live up to it's prequel. While Mermaid Forest
was able to create a tense and eerie atmosphere in the ancient feudal Japanese
mansion through out the night, Scar seems to want to reverse this formula
with a modern house and plenty of day light. As a result a lot of the subtly that
was so successful in Forest is lost in this movie and the overall quality
suffers. There is still a good soundtrack here but it is not used as often as
perhaps it should but nor is there as much for it to play off. The characters
are still good in this series, which the exception of the villain who is no way
near as convincing as Mermaid Forest's. While not a bad movie it's a pity
that Scar failed to build on what was so well presented in Mermaid Forest.
