From the director of Kite comes another sex 'n' violence overloaded OAV featuring more cute girls with bad habits and shiny guns. Our heroine is Mikura the "Orange Girl," one third of a team of mercenaries who get mixed up in a plot to kidnap a big-shot crime
lord. But when the job goes wrong, they find themselves facing the wrath of Momomi, their target's
sadistic teenaged daughter, and the army of heavily-armed flunkies at her command. Blood is
plentiful, sexual overtones are constant, and the action seriously pushes the limits of plausibility.
Unlike Kite, however, brooding angst is pushed to
the side in favor of a lighter atmosphere where the
protagonists exchange quip-filled banter as they engage in combat. This is slightly unsettling in
light of the incredible amount of gratuitous violence,
and there are no signs of any kind of depth or
meaningful drama. Fortunately, the two graphic sex
scenes in the OAV are completely irrelevant to the
plot, and can be skipped over without any qualms.
Umetsu's designs and animation are as impressive as
usual. The writing is a little weak, and never really manages to find the right balance between its shocking
subject matter and its more flippant attitude. Mikura
and Momomi are interesting rivals, and it's too bad
that the hints about their past weren't further explored. None of the other characters stand out, and
the furious pace of the action leaves little time for introspection. Thus, despite its relative tameness, Mezzo Forte, actually has less substance to it than Kite, and isn't nearly as satisfying a watch.

If you are thinking about watching this, then you have probably
already heard of or watched Kite and enjoyed it. Well, this anime is almost
exactly like Kite, except I enjoyed this one more. There are only two sex
scenes, but it's more of an action anime then hentai. Most importantly, it is
enjoyable to watch. The storyline is unoriginal, but not boring, and the drawing
is exactly like Kite, which is to say decent. The action scenes are also
just decent, but there's less of it then there was in Kite. However, I
liked the blend of humor, action and blood, and sex. I suppose the reason why
I make so many references to Kite, besides that the creator is the same,
is because it's typically the exact same thing. I do prefer Mezzo Forte
over Kite though. |

Mezzo Forte has plenty of sex and violence, similar
to Kite. However, the sex is limited to one scene each episode (there are
two half-hour long ones) and there is no underage sex involved. That, and the
fact that it doesnt take itself too seriously and interjects liberal amounts
of humor, makes this series MUCH more bearable. Its still mindless fluff,
but it doesnt try to be anything besides mindless fluff. In fact, it pokes
fun at itself as mindless fluff. Something mildly enjoyable for when you just
dont want to think. |

From the pen of Yasuomi Umetsu comes another anime in
the same style of his last one Kite. Guns, cute girls, sex and violence.
The two ova episodes tells the exploits of a team of 3 mercenaries who get in
over their heads when they take on a job to kill the owner of a baseball team.
Like Kite, Umetsu provides us with an ample douse of well choreographed
action sequences, which for the most part is all that drives the series forward.
With not much to offer other then some decent action sequences (and 2 sex scenes
that add nothing to the story, if you get the Kitty release), I can't recommend
Mezzo Forte except to those who absolutely love Umetsu's work. A
renter for fans of fans of action anime, most will want to pass this one up. |
