Metamorphance! The story of Moldiver takes place in
the year 2045, where a boy named Hiroshi Ozora wants to become a superhero. So
how does he do this? Well, he simply creates a device called a Mol unit to transform
himself into the caped crusader, Captain Tokyo. However, Hiroshi's plans of being
a superhero is short lived, as his sister Mirai, decidies to modify her brother's
invention, and thus begins the adventures of Moldiver. Firstly the art of the
this 6 OVA series is simply stunning, as the animation is very and detailed. The
music themes that are used throughout this OVA was quite good, as the music suited
and fitted the scenes perfectly. The only weakness that I could find with this
show is that, there's is very little character development occuring throughout
the 6 episodies, thus creating the situation of the viewer not caring to much
about the characters. In all, Moldiver is a nice fun take on the americian
comic superheroes that's worth viewing. |

Moldiver is a mixed bag. The designs are good - the
spaceship even resembles the ships from Tenchi Muyo (another AIC show)
somewhat, but the animation ranges from good to rather cheap. The first 4 episodes
are quite hard to get through as they're annoying, illogical and rather stupid.
Any potential comedic effect or excitement is negated by the bad pacing and plotting.
The music doesn't help as it usually fails to summon any excitement or drama when
it's needed. It's not until the last 2 episodes when Moldiver starts to
show more promise, by becoming more focused and providing better plot development
and some dramatic moments. Unfortunately stupid stuff still happens and you've
still got the first 4 boring episodes to go through. It's actually no wonder that
Moldiver is Mihoshi's (from Tenchi Muyo) favorite show! |
