We've got our male lead, who has an infatuation with a girl,
he's having a bit of trouble getting her attention and making her fall for him,
so of course he decides to make a robotic replication of her. Despite a pretty
straightforward premise which doesn't appear to allow for much variation, too
much dabbling in different area's saw this series have some high points and some
desperately low ones. I wonder if series like this aren't the driving force behind
the huge innovations in Humanoid-Robots; Mahoromatic, Hand Maid May,
Steel Angel Kurumi, Chobits, To Heart, Saber Marionette
J (Again,J-X,R), Yokohama Shopping Log. You may also have noticed my
next point, this series isn't anything new, and doesn't reinvent the concept either,
it is the rather mediocre version of it all, the type of thing you'd watch because
you just want a nice mindless diversion from serious things, while not indulging
in utter stupidity. Actually, the main flaw with the OAV, is that it is so short,
the first 2 episodes give you only the tiniest introduction to the characters,
and leave a lot of situations open, the final episode, diverts completely from
the series and feels tacked on, probably the whim of the creator to actually put
some of his insight into the series, whether it suited it or not. The point is,
the series is good, and easy simple enjoyment, but it is disappointing, not such
an unusual mix these days. |

There was a joke written in fanfiction form about guys who
spend too much time playing "dating simulators;" that they're capable
of self-reproduction (which is disgusting, by the way). My Dear Marie is
a prime example of one man's drive to be with the girl of his dreams... By creating
an android in her near-spitting image. And then you have your consequences. My
favorite part of this short series has to be the inclusion of the Ryuji Yamazaki
protegee, Hibiki. She's such a bad-*** that one might wonder why she's in a series
about an android and the geek who created her. Our question gets answered, however,
when Hibiki starts to reveal her secret... |
