There isn't really much to say about this anime. There's nothing particularly interesting or novel here. Even so, this series offers another cute, playful, and fun anime to watch. Nanaka 6/17 has several characters, but only three really stand out. The others are only to help develop the three main characters and to offer humorous situations. Basically, high school comedy is where this anime fits in most appropriately. There are several serious scenes, but they neither evoke any emotions nor add to the enjoyment of this series. Nanaka 6/17 is pretty much just an anime to watch if you have some spare time. It's possibly one of the most "normal" anime series that I've seen in a while.

2. Tempy

When Nanaka's mother passed away when she was just six, Nenji comforts her and tells her not to cry and that they'll have to grow up and become adults together. Nowadays Nenji is a rough boy and always getting into fights, while Nanaka has become anti-social and very serious, constantly studying. Their relationship has cooled down a lot, with Nanaka always lecturing Nenji to start growing up. A fall from a flight of stairs causes Nanaka to revert back to her 6-year old self - a rather dim, but always genki young girl who's a big fan of an anime called Magical Domiko. Nenji straightens himself out and vows to take care of Nanaka, but although he enjoys the company of 6-year old Nanaka, what will happen with 17-year old Nanaka?

Nanaka 6/17 is a very bright and cheerful show which consistently puts a smile on my face, but it also has some well done serious moments, making it a very satisfying show. Yuriko Amemiya likes Nenji and provides an interesting romantic possibility, but this aspect never gets expanded upon. Less amusing are Kuriko, a little girl obsessed with Nenji, and Satsuki who continuously beats up her brother Jinpachi, adding absolutely nothing to the show as she hardly interacts with either Nenji or Nanaka. Fortunately Kuriko and Satsuki are used very little and the show can focus on Nanaka instead.

1. Neko Tsukimi

Nenji and Nanaka have been best friends ever since elementary. When Nanaka was six, her mother died and Nenji was there to comfort her. He gave her a Domiko Stick toy and told her not to cry and become an adult with the words "Magical Domikal, otona ni nare!" ("Magical Domikal, become an adult!"). From that point on, silly Nanaka strives to become an adult as quickly as she can by studying all the time. Thus, Nanaka becomes the stick-up-the-arse girl she is today, constantly telling Nenji to grow up. Hawawa! Nenji eventually gets enough of Nanaka's constant complaining about everything from his appearance to his getting into fights so he snaps at her for the first time. Nanaka gets so upset that she loses control and falls down a tall flight of steps. When she comes to, she believes that she is 6 and that she and Nenji have become adults due to magic. She goes around acting like she's only 6 years old being obsessed with Magical Domiko, a popular mahou shoujo anime. However, the 17-year-old Nanaka still resides under the surface trying to regain control over her body. With these two personalities conflicting more and more each day and the ending of Magical Domiko near, 6-year-old Nanaka wonders what will happen when the magic is dispelled.

Nanaka 6/17 is an awesome, light-hearted anime that doesn't even attempt to be anything it isn't. It's a cute shonen series full of silly characters. It's also a pretty nifty story too. Well, the part that has a story. It's almost nothing but filler and could have easily been done as a 3-part OAV. But if it were that short, there wouldn't have been room for some of the hillarities that go on in the series. Nanaka 6/17 was the series I needed in this rather lacklustre mini anime season.
