2. Qian Wan

A typical school kids love story. The twist of this high school romance is that the girl is an alien (don't worry she is just about normal and cute as any other kanojos you see in other series). Narue no Sekai never bothered to take its potent theme to a deeper level. The first episode successfully fueled my interest, but it failed to keep me attached to this series as I watched the small 12 episode series in a span of 2 months. Most of the episodes were concentrated on the simple sweet talk and relation between our couple Narue and Kazuto, which is not that different from all the other romance competitors out there. The element that kept this title from falling into the abyss of mediocre garbage is the supporting roles. I personally liked the androids and space ninjas that kept a tiny redeeming quality to this otherwise plain and uncreative anime (they only appeared for 4 episodes total). Don't get me wrong as they were some episodes that clearly distinguished this title from others but the satisfaction that I got from it simply won't cut it. So for viewers who just like to watch cute girls in uniforms - check. But for viewers who expect something that actually moves you by its romance and whatnot, it is a better bet to look elsewhere.

Kazuto has a cute new girlfriend, except she's from outer space! Now apparently this isn't such a weird thing, although it's not like aliens wander the streets and spaceships roam the skies. Narue no Sekai has its nice moments, most of them between Kazuto and Narue. It's nice to see an anime couple enjoying life together, and although we don't get into the complex trappings of relationships, at least we don't have to suffer from the usual struggles to get a loved one's attention, the angst, the misunderstandings, and other stressful things that are employed unsuccessfully way too often in anime. Kazuto and Narue go to the beach and have fun together. That's it and what a relief that is.

Unfortunately Narue no Sekai isn't just a gentle slice-of-life romantic comedy. The show manages to throw many annoying characters which challenge our leading couple. From the spiteful sister Kanaka, the alien-obsessed Yagi, to the ugly-looking space ninjas. Most of them mellow out considerably later on, but they're initially trying to be as annoying and mean-spirited as possible.

It also doesn't help that the show boasts subpar production values save the opening and ending themes. And besides some character introductory episodes, most of the show is inconsistent filler lacking any serious main story. There's going to be an OVA series-follow-up, perhaps this will emphasize the positive aspects of the show more.
