One thing can be said about AIC... They can't seem to
let go of this "Tenchi Muyo" virus to save their lives. It's
apparent when you watch Ninja Cadets as characters start looking like they
were taking their break from doing other AIC shows like Tenchi and
El Hazard. It's not really a bad thing, in my opinion. Ninja
Cadets is an interesting story about a group of teens training to be ninjas.
Their "final exam" is to go to a conquered empire and snatch magical
scrolls for themselves. But they end up in a fight with the rivaling veterans,
and their mission is to capture a "princess." Recommended for those
who want to see AIC characters as ninjas. |

Now don't get me wrong, Ninja Cadets was very entertaining
and I did enjoy it. The reason it got such a low rating was because it was incredibly
short and left me hanging. A similar analogy would be driving along in a car and
for no reason slamming on the brakes. It is at this point in the show where the
credits start up and leave you wondering if: a) this is a joke; or b) there is
more to the show. Sadly enough, the correct answer is 'a'. The story at the beginning
was also very confusing and by the time you had everything figured out the show
was over. However, it wasn't a total loss although the comedy at parts were subpar
and the same goes for the action. Even with all of that said, I did enjoy Ninja
Cadets to a degree but I would not strongly recommend it. |

Ninja Cadets comes in as only a short term ninja title.
You need only to watch this once if you want to. IMHO, it failed to portrait what
ninja titles should be aimed at: good fight scenes. The fights are with monsters
and giant insects don't interest me. I want real fights with real fighters like
the Shinsen Gumi or other. And if I add there is little to no blood here, I can
say this is the kids' version of a ninja title. This could have been better if
it was completed to the end and not only stopped with 2 episodes. |

Ninja Cadets is about a group of uhm...ninja cadets
training to be full fledged ninjas. They're given a final test to retrieve magic
scrolls from a castle. One of the cadets happens to be a princess (she doesn't
know it though), and a group of bad guys are out to capture her. Ninja Cadets
boasts some decent designs and animation. The female bad guy is a very cool design
with her long limbs and wacky hair. However, the pacing is often wrong, and the
music is pretty bad, making action scenes less interesting than they could have
been. There are a few laughs here and there though, and the battle with the giant
spider thing is neat, but as a whole Ninja Cadets is pretty average. |

While short and incomplete, I enjoyed Ninja Cadets.
Primarily cute girls with swords, Ninja Cadets has decent animation, and
character design, with an incomplete (and ultimately forgettable) storyline. Fairly
mediocre, but worth a few laughs, and for male hormones there is always the short
bath scene. I really wish that they had made more! |

I'm left with thinking where's part two? the story was getting
good then it ends... take a mystery of a feudal Japan clan protecting a princess...
wait, throw that plot out the window... its about 6 ninjas on a mission to graduate
from cadets to full fledged ninjas by stealing sacred scrolls. Wait, someone is
trying to stop them... that's it... story's over and thanks for buying the DVD.
At least they had a character pronounced Poochie... LAMO. |
