Contrary to popular belief, Ninja Resurrection, is NOT a follow up to Ninja Scroll. This anime is a whole new Jubei with an entirely new plot for the characters to work in. Don't believe those websites that try to put this as a follow up to Ninja Scroll.

The plot of Ninja Resurrection revolves around old heroes coming back to life as demons. A whole idea of a child of God is also present within this. The idea of the story was OK. Most of the events occurring were somewhat explained or had a reason for it. However, there was a problem with the characters. They had nearly no depth to them. The lack of poor development in the character department really hurt the film. Sadly, I felt worse for characters that had no lines in the story and were just shown. Even the enemy you can feel worse for! The main characters, aside from the enemy, have no development and don't pull you in at all. The ending also leaves a lot of things up in the air. Perhaps they did such a thing so you would want to see more but there is no more to be seen! The time when you can at least start to appreciate this for the action you're nearly through the entire thing. Concept was good, execution was all right, but the development wasn't up to par. The atmosphere was also built well during the later parts of the episode. The dramatic changes in scenery and atmosphere, however, feels out of place or it comes too soon.

The animation is strange in that it goes from stunningly excellent and at times to unbearably horrible. The fighting scenes are extremely detailed as are the main characters. The scenes are completely clean and really let you get right in there with them. However, when outside of battles, such as showing hordes of people, the animation just plummets. They show multiple hulks of bodies that are completely faceless. Emotion isn't really shown in characters except for the enemy and some of the female characters.

The music is really only existent during battle sequences. This works out well as the atmosphere is supposed to be a dark moody type of tone while the battle sequence music keeps the action pumping. So the music is a good work for this series.

Ninja Resurrection isn't exactly for the faint of heart or those looking for a high quality story. This is more for those looking only for action. If you want action and a story look up Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen or the Rurouni Kenshin TV series.

Ninja Resurrection, in my opinion, stands as the best ninja title in the market. Starring Jubei (has nothing to do with the Ninja Scroll's one - in fact, most of the ninja warriors here are based on legendary characters that lived in the past Japan, including him) and gang. A lot of effort was put here in the animation quality, making this the best looking ninja titles. The fight scenes are nothing short of breathtaking with lots of blood and some good moves. The idea of the story is okay with me. If you're a ninja or an action fan, you got to see this but it is absolutely not for kids. The sequel to this OVA will be a TV series, which is still in the works.
