The mini-feature "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure" is
simple, harmless fun for the kids. It's an excuse to show as many Pokémon
as possible. There's no dialogue, but none is really needed. Pikachu and the gang
go after Togepi and need to save him (her?) along with several nests of Exeggcutes.
After this enjoyable appetizer comes the main feature, which is sadly enough extremely
poor. The designs are similar to the TV show, there's slightly better animation,
and the occasional use of computer graphics , which is rather mediocre. Like so
many cartoons/anime before it, Pokémon 2000 features an extremely
predictable and lame story which thrusts Ash in the role as the saviour of the
world and requires him to find 3 treasures which will somehow make everything
all right again. Usually with this kind of story you hope the show will not take
itself too seriously and go with humor to make it enjoyable (Slayers anyone?).
Pokémon 2000 is just never funny and you'll probably find yourself
dozing off as the events transpire as predicted.
