3. Tempy

Three girls for reasons unknown travel through space and time in search for the person who might provide answers and a way to stop travelling. The oldest girl is Ai, who is kind and gentle, and also able to talk to the dandelions (tanpopo). The middle girl is Mai, probably the most normal of the three, though frequently concerned about the size of her breasts compared to those of Ai. Mii is the cute little one. Together with their cute little ferret Unagi (who likes to plant herself between Ai's breasts) and their maid Mea, their adventures seem like mere fun at first. They meet all kinds of new people, and friendship ensues. The flip-side of this is that their sudden forced departures causes pain and loneliness in themselves and the people they leave behind.

Despite appearing as yet another fanservice show at first, Popotan develops a surprising amount of depth. Based on a hentai game, Popotan the anime focuses a lot on these relationships and does it quite well. Relationships are not always fun and games, and solutions don't come easy. Along the way the show also sheds light into the mysteries of their travels, keeping things interesting, and the audience looking forward to the next episode. Though the girls are frequently naked, it's often only during bath scenes, where it seems to be just a natural thing.

With cute characters, a nice original story that doesn't shy away from drama, pleasant music, and consistently good art & animation, I enjoyed Popotan a lot and can easily recommend it to people who fear it might be just too shallow. It's not Shakespeare, but perhaps you'll find it as surprisingly good as I did.

2. Neko Tsukimi

Popotan is the story of three sisters who are constantly traveling on a journey. They don't know where they are going, when they'll next travel, nor when their journey will be over. Everywhere they go, they make new friendships which must be abruptly dissolved. Along their journey, the eldest sister Ai ask the "popotan" (tanpopo or dandelions) for their assistance on their journey. They don't offer too much advice however. The middle sister Mai doesn't share her older sister's excitement for traveling so she doesn't open herself up to making friends. The youngest sister, Mii fancies herself to be a magical girl and enjoys squishy things, especially her big sister's breasts. She enjoys the pleasure of meeting people every stop on their journey. Their android maid Mare serves as a guardian for the girls. All four of them live happily in a huge mansion that's partially a shop for Christmas goods that travels with them.

Even though they have everything they need, life isn't totally carefree for them. Saying goodbye to the people they meet takes its toll on all the girls and also the people they come in contact with. What will the girls do when given a chance to stop their journey?

The series started out well, but continued to make no sense as the weeks passed. However, the story took a different approach with its telling. Instead of setting up the story, the show began with no explanation and the story told itself as the series progressed with everything being told in the end. It was nice, but left me confused week after week until the end. However, this didn't detract from the quality at all. Overall, it was a fun show with a great story with tons of fanservice mixed in.

Three sisters travel around with their maid. How unoriginal and boring that sounds. However, there's much more to that. Actually, there's much more, but I don't wish to give away the story. The animation is very clean and cute and so is the voice acting. There's also lots of nudity. Most of the nudity, I would say is unnecessary, but it doesn't make this show any less enjoyable, unless of course female nudity bothers you in some awkward way.

After watching the first episode, one would assume that Popotan might be another comedic ecchi series with no plot, lots of panty shots and perverted men. As the episodes progress, Popotan proves to be a very pleasant surprise. Sure, there are lots of nude scenes with females bathing together, but there certainly is also a plot with drama. With every following episode, I enjoyed Popotan even more.

The only downside to this wonderful new anime is that after watching it, I was left with many questions. I don't believe that these questions necessarily needed to be answered, as the message being delivered by the anime was accomplished. Yet, I still would have wanted a couple more questions answered.
