During Mihoshi's "Cop Flashback" episode; Ryoko complained
about her "bringing down God to save the day." And that God came down
in the form as "Pretty Sammy", the magical girl version of Sasami. Afterwhich
we AIC fans get to experience the adventures of Sasami and her friends,
her singing single mother, and her best friend who ends up becoming her magical
antagonist Pixy Misa. Another mind-numbing masterpiece
from the same guys who brought you Tenchi Muyo. And of course we get to
see more of Kiyone; the only hot babe sane enough to do battle with Mihoshi's
sweet stupidity. And not only does Pretty Sammy fights against Pixy Misa's gift
to speak in another language; she also gets to fight the anime version of Bill
Gates as well as evil Ramia's sudden amnesia. |

What can I say? I just didn't enjoy this series much. There
were a few cute moments, but I probably made the mistake of watching this OVA
after watching the much-superior Pretty Sammy TV series, from which ideas
from this OVA were taken, improved, and expanded upon. This series also seems
to have trouble trying to decide what it wants to be. The first two episodes are
pretty much all-comedy, so when the last episode tries to make a sudden turn for
the dramatic, it doesn't come off well at all. Not a bad way to waste time, but
in this reviewer's opinion, there are better anime, and even better Tenchi
anime to waste your time with. The best episode of the bunch was the Bill Gates
parody. |

The Tenchi Muyo gang is back in another alternate world!
This time things revolve around all around good kid Sasami, who gets bestowed
magical girl powers by Tsunami. With the help of talking Ryo-Ohki, she waves her
magical wand, utters the magical words "Pretty Mutation, Magical Recall",
and transforms into Pretty Sammy! Her last name is now Kawai, Tenchi is her brother,
their mother is karaoke-freak Chihiro, Ryoko and Ayeka are now students and still
fighting over undecisive Tenchi, Washu is a science teacher, and Mihoshi and Kiyone
work at Chihiro's music store. Sasami's best friend is the shy, sickish and troubled
Misao, whose life is about to change when she is manipulated by Ramia (who is
jealous of Tsunami) and her brother Rumiya, and becomes Pixy Misa. Pixy Misa is
destined to be Pretty Sammy's rival, and unlike Misao she is pretty bold and daring,
peppering her vocabulary with english for comic effect. While
some of the pacing is a bit off, there are lots of funny moments. There's still
the suggestive naughtiness from Ryoko, her rivalry with Ayeka, Kiyone and Mihoshi
being themselves, but also wacky outlandish stuff like the love love monsters,
a talking crab, and a giant monkey who likes to mount things. And then there's
the Bill Gates parody "Biff Standard" who's trying to conquer the world
with his operating system. Fun. |

This is a spin off of the Tenchi Muyo OAV where Mihoshi
tells a story (Galaxy Police Special). This is a basic Magical Girl series
where Tsunami appears to Sasami from the magical realm of Juraihelm and grants
her powers to fight evil etc. A rival magical girl appears to cause Pretty Sammy
problems. The series was reasonable and most Tenchi regulars make
an appearance. The second episode where Bill Gates (name changed) appears
is the best. This was a series that I enjoyed but I would only strongly recommend
it to Tenchi fans. | |
