Although the artwork isn't as good as in the OVA series, I
still consider this TV series to be superior to the OVA. The animation has improved,
although still nothing to write home about, the number of static screens has been
drastically reduced. The TV series is truer to the manga series and thus fans
of the OVA might be disappointed with the changes here and there. The story is
now more epic, spanning more years, and with more characters getting some screen
time. Everybody is now more mature, most notably Parn, who isn't the hotheaded,
obnoxious brat that he was in the OVA anymore. Deedlit and Pirotess are much less
interesting this time around however, and that is truly a shame. The story does
drag on a bit here and there. Some sequences are predictable and annoying to get
through. As a bonus however, each episode includes a short super-deformed bit
called "Lodoss Island" which is simple, but quite enjoyable, even though
the silliness does clash with the main show's more serious side. To fully appreciate
the TV series however, you do need to have seen the OVA series first. |
