Well, here we have, much of the same. I've been trying to establish
to myself just what the point or even intent of this OAV was, it must be that
I'm getting old or slow, because I can't for the life of me see any point to this
OAV, nor can I say I enjoyed it. This was some abominable version of the Saber
Marionette world, I can only assume this was meant to be an 'alternate' world
with Marionettes, as any other explanation bothers me asit would imply a whole
mess of story failures and inconsistencies and a lot of questions which I could
spend hours on trying to figure out but wouldn't have an answer to till I talked
to the creators of this OAV.
The animation was,
quite unusual actually, everything was animated, as in they didn't just get a
still character and have them talk for 5 minutes at a time due to budget restrictions,
all in all the amount of animated animation was quite good, however the animation
style was decided ugly, very dull and entirely unattractive, admittedly most of
it does take place during the night time so you can't expect any vibrant colours,
but there was still no real attention to detail or any inspired looking backgrounds
or shading, the same applied to the characters, very dull. The fights scenes,
were again, animated, with a nice fluid feel to them, but they were very bland
and basic, the fighting was just boring to watch, totally unexciting and didn't
even have a couple of token moments of glory which everyone remembers. They had
a good background story to work on, they could have gone in any direction with
the style of animation, they clearly had a decent budget to work with, but they
didn't exploit any of these things and ended up creating something truly bland.
The most obvious let down about this OAV is the wasted potential, over than that
it just stands as a bland mediocre piece of work.
