This one reminded me of Tenchi, there is one guy surrounded
by girls who just love him. With only two episodes there was no time for character
development, and just like Tenchi, most of the girls are pretty annoying.
It was one of those where I would have been glad had some of the characters been
killed. The animation was good, the dub was average and music could have been
better. There was always some suspense to it though, so that helped it from being
a total loss. And a couple of the sword fights were fairly entertaining, particularly
the first one. If youre looking for a serious samurai show, you can do much
better. However, if you're in the mood for something light and a little humorous,
you might really enjoy this. |

Samurai: Hunt for the Sword joins a long list of titles
that where sadly cut short. The story involves Shinjuro, a young samurai who,
a la Tenchi, is surrounded by cute girls that adore him. While the premise
is good the execution falls flat. With only 2 episodes to go on, none of the characters
are really given a chance to develop. Further problems crop up in the ending arc,
which I found to be not only too short, but extremely uninvolving. The lack of
character development, and pacing left me disinterested in the series in the end,
although I did find the first episode to be fairly enjoyable. While the show probably
would have made a great TV series with some time to build up the characters, this
2 shot OVA simply didn't have enough time to mature. |
