2. Tempy

Steel Angel Kurumi starts out nice enough - dimwit Nakahito encounters android maid from the future, somehow ends up with her, as well as 2 of her "sisters". Kurumi is even dimmer - she's your typical shounen stereotype robot girlfriend, in maid clothing, dumb, all-serving, ends sentences with -desu, has cute sound effect "kyuuin", and likes to go super deformed as well. The art is nice and bright, and the girls are very boobalicious. It's fitting that the "ultimate" steel angel we encounter later in the show exhibits the largest mammary glands. So far not very deep, but enjoyable in a shounen fanservice type way. But when the story starts kicking in, things start to get bad. The show throws away the comedy, the plot elements become even more unbelievable, things get more serious but not in a good way. It becomes more apparant that Nakahito is totally useless; is he the main character or is it Kurumi? There are lots of fights, but they're hardly interesting, and can't hold a candle to shows like Kenshin. Perhaps it lacks emotional attachment to the characters. Karinka starts off as an evil character, and the brutality she displays during her initial fights turns the show into a mean-spirited one for a while. The last 8 episodes of the main story are totally bereft of any form of comedy, and wearily I approach the predictably vomit inducing ending. An additional 4 episodes were tacked on to the show marking the return to what the show does best - fillerish comedy.

Steel Angel Kurumi is another "bunch of girls with superhuman powers live with one unworthy guy" show. Kurumi, Saki, and Karinka are Steel Angels, female androids that just happen to kick butt. There's a bit of fan service, but not as much as the import covers may lead you to believe. There's also heavy emphasis on fight scenes, so if you like watching cute girls duke it out you'll probably like this show. Although it starts off a bit slow, the second half of the series picks up quite a bit and is very interesting.
