I must be one of the only people who actually really enjoyed
this one. Everyone knows about the whole Street Fighter thing, so I won't
get into that. The fighting sequences are nice, nothing mind blowing, but nice.
The men are usually pretty large and muscle bulging, but it doesn't detract from
the enjoyment much. I have only seen the dubbed American version, and I'm not
too sure if there is a Japanese version. Yet, the soundtrack is excellent, which
are all rock, such as Alice in Chains. The storyline is, of course, predictable
because it is a Street Fighter movie. If you played the video games, you
would know what I mean. Definitely one of the better video game to anime productions. |

If I wanted to see bulging musclemen duke it out; I'd watch
the live-action movie version of Street Fighter. Sure I won't get to see
Fei-Long and Thunder Hawk, but atleast I'll be one more Jean-Claude Van-whats-his-name
and ten times less use of steroids. Then again it's
probably because I'm a fan of SNK's King of Fighters video game
series. They didn't have so many Ryu-clones, head-swaps, name-swaps, and copy-cats.
And if they do; then they're cooler (as per SNK's unwritten law). They
also have Koreans! And a fighting stage in the Middle East... But
enough about the King of Fighters. This review is about the Street Fighter
II movie. It's horrible! These guys stooped to having Chun Li fight Vega in
her shirt and undies (after the infamous shower scene); then one would know where
this is going. |

One of the first anime adoption of a fighting game and still
one of the best ones out there. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie features
almost all the fighters from the many Street Fighter II videogames. And
here is the failing point of it, it is a bit inconvenient to have all characters
in one movie and so, some of them only appeared once for little or no reason or
in small sub stories. The main guy Ryu, is set out in a tour around the world
to discover whatever he is searching for while his buddy Ken is making some good
money out of his skills as a fighter. And then there is Chun Li, the beautiful
Interpol agent who is seeking Bison to avenge her father. Bison, the head of Shadow
Law, a secret terrorist army, is seeking Ryu to employ his fighting skills to
his side and so on.... Just your typical Street Fighter story in place.
The animation is okay although having a harsh look to them with rather blunt lines
in the bodies of the fighters. The fight scenes are okay, nothing breathtaking
or innovating except maybe for the last battle with Bison, but still, everything
is predictable. Watch it once or thrice and you will get enough from it. |
