Tenchi Forever isn't like any other Tenchi series out there (by the time of this writing I have not yet seen Tenchi in Tokyo), and this is actually a good thing. Gone are the silly antics and the usual jokes. There are no powerful bad guys to fight either. One day Tenchi disappears putting everybody in a state of depression, especially Ayeka and Ryoko. The gang has split up in search of Tenchi but things haven't been very fruitful so far. Tenchi Forever is sad and depressing. The characters are more in-depth, and the plotting is much slower to give more time to the more subtle characterizations. The music is excellent, very romantic, yet not overbearing.

Tenchi Forever is just not like the rest of Tenchi. Some say that it has its charm, but for the final installment of a show that is supposed to resolve things, it does a poor job. All it reveals in the way of a conclusion is allusion as to who Tenchi pairs up with at the end. If that's what you're looking for out of the movie, save yourself the trouble and e-mail me for the answer. This movie is beautifully drawn, but the plot is not a Tenchi plot and the characters have also changed.

This movie is not very popular among the die-hard Tenchi fans and it gets a bad reputation. It has a very different feel from the other Tenchi movies and series. Tenchi is certainly not the focal point of the movie (though, has he ever been the real focal point of the series..?), and instead the movie focuses on the relationship between Aeka and Ryoko while they're searching for Tenchi. The music in this movie is probably the best out of all the Tenchi series, and so is the artwork. If you didn't already know who Tenchi chooses to be with, this movie should clear it up for you.

My favorite Tenchi movie. Tenchi goes wandering off one day and is sucked into a tree by a long lost love of his grandfather. The rest of the movie is about Tenchi's time in the tree (and Haruna, his grandfather's lover) and Ryoko and Ayeka's search for him. They put all their bad blood behind them to hone in on getting Tenchi back safely…but does Tenchi want to come back? The reality phases and seeing Tenchi if he was older was neat. Ryoko's last ditch effort when all is pretty much lost is a tear-jerker. To me, this is great storytelling and I think it is the deepest Tenchi story yet both with interaction between characters (Ryoko and Ayeka especially) and intra-character. Many people are mad because the ending did not bring closure on the Ayeka or Ryoko love choice. In my mind Tenchi has already made up his mind and many things in the movie point to this fact. They just didn't want to spell it out for you. Other problems people have with this could be talked about but I don't wish to write a dissertation. Highly recommended as long as you go into it with an open mind.

First off Tenchi Forever is not your typical Tenchi Muyo. The comedy is all but gone and instead focuses more the emotions of the 3 main characters Tenchi, Ryoko, and Ayeka. The story starts with Tenchi vanishing, and Ryoko and Ayeka setting out to search for him. As the tale unfolds we watch them cope with the loss of Tenchi, and their struggle to find him. A powerful story, and a fresh new take on the Tenchi franchise.
