The Tenchi OAVs are a favorite for nearly all anime
fans. It was one of the very first series I ever watched completely. The character
interaction is priceless, and the characters themselves are all very lovable.
Out of all the Tenchi storylines, the OAV story of how the cast meets is by far
the best and most entertaining. The mysteries of Tsunami, Jurai, and the master
key are all very interesting to watch unfold. For some humor, romance, and action,
this is certainly the series to see.
Episodes 1-6 are the original releases of Tenchi, and
that is where it has always drawn its strength and popularity from. Girls from
space rain down on Tenchi complicating his life but helping him to defeat the
evil Kagato who comes for the power Tenchi possesses. The first episode is weak
and clashes a bit with episodes 2-6, but don't let that stop you from watching
the rest. After episode 6, the plot degenerates into the girls fighting over Tenchi,
and detracts from the quality of the first 6 OAVs.
The Tenchi Muyo! OVAs 1 and 2 are a must-buy for any
Tenchi fan. OVA 1 is far stronger than OVA 2 because of the more interesting enemy
and the origins of the characters. The animation is great quality since it is
an OVA release. I can't recommend this series about a boy, six girls and a horny
dad and grandfather enough. Who can't love this series?
Tenchi Muyo ranks up there as one of my most beloved
series, and of the entire series, the OVAs are by far my favorite. Outlandish
and often adult comedy, romance, a lot of fanservice, and unique visual style
give Tenchi an edge over most anime, but its major strength is still its
cast of characters. There's a character for everyone, and the interaction between
these characters is what really drives me to continue watching it. A classic sci-fi
romantic comedy.
