Despite the title, the ones in love are actually Tenchi's parents.
Kain is a very powerful criminal who escapes from his confinement and plots to
seek revenge against the house of Jurai. He travels back in time to kill Achika,
Tenchi's mother. Tenchi and the gang travels back in time to prevent this from
happening. The movie lacks a decent pace and direction necessary for good action
sequences. The lackluster music from Christopher Franke (Babylon 5) doesn't help.
The science is also a bit dodgy (even for anime), but then again that's hardly
surprising whenever time travel is used. There are some fun and humorous moments
but they're far and between and only mildly funny. The best parts certainly belong
to Achika and Noboyuki, as well as Tenchi's dedication to saving his parents.
Tenchi Muyo In Love is unfortunately my least favorite of the three Tenchi
movies.
This action movie where the gang must travel in time to save
Tenchi's parents, is the best of Tenchi Muyo. Excellent animation and drawing,
fast moving plot, and the romance of Tenchi's parents highlight the story. This
movie can be watched after the OAV series or TV series. If you take my advice
and stop watching the OAVs after episode 6, the only character you're missing
for the movie is Mihoshi's serious and competent partner Kiyone, and her character
is apparent in the movie.
Tenchi Muyou in Love is probably the best of the Tenchi
movies, and really the best thing to come out of the entire series, in my opinion.
Tenchi and the gang have to go back in time in order to stop Kain from killing
his mother, Achika. Achika, of course, happens to be the best looking character
in the entire series. It is fun to watch as Achika and Tenchi's father, Noboyuki,
meet and fall in love. Definitely one of my favorite movies.
A great movie. Tenchi's mom is at the center of this movie.
A Space Police prisoner, Kain, breaks out and goes back in time to make sure the
Jurai family was never continued by killing Tenchi's mom. This movie reminds me
a lot of Back to the Future as Tenchi's mom kind of falls for him. For a movie,
it flows very well and doesn't seem to distort any characters from what was done
before.
Based off the events in the first TV series (Tenchi Universe),
Tenchi Muyo in Love brings us more of the same, with a bigger budget. Thankfully
that's all it needs to be great. The story was interesting, and surprisingly the
dramatic moments where pulled off very well. My only complaint was the lack of
screen time for Washu. Highly recommended for fans of the series.
