This highly publicized work of Satoshi Kon has its merits, but it's not a masterpiece. In Tokyo Godfathers, three homeless people, Gin, a middle-aged alcoholic, Miyuki, a teenage runaway, and Hana, a male transvestite, unearth an abandoned baby in a garbage heap. The next few days entail the three attempting to find the child's mother in many adventures with numerous coincidental incidences.
In Tokyo Godfathers, Satoshi Kon is successful in portraying each character descriptively and fluidly, a difficult task in many short 90-minute films. The artwork itself is rich in color and contrast. There honestly aren't much negative comments to make about this film. Production-wise, this was an amazing film, but it just didn't catch my attention the way Millennium Actress or Paranoia Agent did.
