3. Iodine

A few degrees short of outright porn, this flimsy fight anime pits large-chested waitresses against each other in an ultimate fighting championship where the match losers have to strip. Of course there are the usual evil masterminds, friends turned against each other, and plenty of extraneous cast members in all shapes and sizes to appeal to every possible configuration of male hormones. The characters are completely flat despite their curves and the main character, Yuka, is the perfect epitome of a brainless bimbo. Amazingly, the plot plays it completely straight, and even makes several unintentionally hilarious attempts at being serious and dramatic. Even if the gratuitous elements were left out, there are way too many characters and too much going on for anything coherent to emerge from the wreckage of this plot.

The production values for this mess are dismayingly good, sporting impressive animation and detailed designs. It only serves to higlight the show's serious deficiencies and perverse intent. Fortunately, the OAV is only three episodes long and was never continued.

There are people out there that had been extremely fortunate enough to purchase a copy of these type of fighting games where women were the main focus. During the heydays of the Playstation, games like Asuka 120%, Pretty Fighter, Queen of Hearts, and this title I'm reviewing, had graced the consoles with girls and ladies that fought it out in the rings. It's "winner take all, loser gets her clothing ripped off or what have you." And the crowd goes wild whatever happens.

Variable Geo is my current favorite; sporting powerful girls with bouncing boobs techniques that would level a building. Oh sure, the plot hole's so big that an ocean freighter would go through it. But that's the beauty of it all. It's basically a retread of the Street Fighter II movie with beautiful girls from each restaurant instead of overly-muscular guys, and sans the Gen-X punk-pop soundtrack.

A note about the guy who hangs around Reimi Jyahana (VG's main boss): a complaint had arisen that he's based on the creator of the VG series, and that he wrote himself in as her "helper." If one sees in the Street Fighter series how Bison (Vega) had kidnapped Cammy and turned her into his "plaything," then there wouldn't be much complaint.

Variable Geo is originally based on a hentai fighting game. The anime and game both share the same rather shallow story. Waitresses fighting for a prize purse with the loser of the match having to take off her clothes in front of the crowd. As you can guess from the subject matter the title is primarily fanservice material, and people who aren't into lots of bouncing breasts and clothes being ripped off should probably look somewhere else. While not a great title, fan service junkies will probably enjoy this shallow, though amusing trip.
