So the pitiful fellow finally gets the girl, pity it is the wrong one eh? With detestable scenes, the usual, 'misunderstanding' STOPPING ALL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! Maybe it started as a novelty, as a way to lengthen a series, or as some sick comedic joke, but these days, it nearly makes me stop watching, everyone seems capable of complex conniving schemes, but simply explaining what happened is far beyond the capability of anime characters these days, I can however say some good things for our protagonist, he is fairly decisive, and knows what he wants, rejecting a fairly appealing substitute so that he can appease his own heart, so it makes it hard to hate the fellow, but that isn't to say he isn't quite annoying. The animation and character designs were nothing special, but they don't have any obvious lapses. Not a bad series, I'm probably just becoming jaded, add a star or so if you're a tolerant person.

Another late night 10 minute episode anime, Yume de Aetara fits squarely into the shounen romance genre. Originally based on a manga, the story revolves around Fuguno, a hapless salary worker in love with a young school teacher by the name of Nagisa. As with most shounen romance the male lead is utterly incompetent in art of relationships, fumbling his way through most situations. To make matters worse Nagisa is terrible at dealing with her emotions, often times pushing people she cares about away. As you can guess this makes for a great deal of friction between the two, and the constant see-saw battle of emotions is primarily what drives the series forward. Sadly the show is crippled by it's short running time and episode count, and never really manages to gain enough emotional lift for the majority of the sequences. Fun to watch, but a bit of a letdown with its "to be continued" style ending.

Yume de Aetara spans 16 short (~10 minutes including op & ed) episodes. Masuo Fuguno is a sad git who's in love with schoolteacher Shiozaki Nagisa. His inexperience with relationships is apparent as he's just terribly uncomfortable around her. Miho Hamaoka is a female co-worker who falls in love with him, and while it seems that they're better suited for each other, Fuguno-san only loves Nagisa-san. The show seems just to exist for fanservice (there are quite a few shower scenes which have nothing to do with the story itself), but it's really more than just that. While the story is quite generic and generally lighthearted, there are some real sweet and depressing moments. What does bring the series down is that Fuguno-san always seems to get into a situation where he gets misunderstood by Nagisa-san. Once is okay, but when the show does that episode after episode it does get a tad annoying. The characters and situations are just too simplistic to be taken seriously, but at least they tried to be more than just a late-night ecchi comedy with poor jokes (Momoiro Sisters anybody?).
